Dear Editor:

Many people are finding it hard to believe that the Olympia City Council would seriously consider placing huge buildings on our waterfront.

Please be assured that this could happen unless the public takes action. One City Council member has already announced support, long before the Council’s Public Hearing and even before the Planning Commission makes a recommendation.

Our waterfront is the heart of our community. For the past 25 years we have taken steps to open it up for public use and enjoyment. This process needs to continue, in preparation for the population growth that will certainly happen.

Instead, the current proposal would devote large portions of the waterfront to up-scale condos in huge structures that would compromise the openness, human scale, and views that we have worked so hard to protect.

And we would even subsidize the condo owners by waiving the property taxes on these structures for ten years.

People who are concerned about this should contact the Olympia City Council. If they don’t have time for a letter or email, they can just call 753-8450 to leave a message for City Council members.

Sincerely,

Bob Jacobs
