Nothing wrong with office buildings in capital city

In work session April 29, Olympia Planning commissioners nod their heads sagely when members passionately proclaim that more office buildings and parking lots are the worst-case alternative for land use in Olympia's downtown waterfront.

Amazingly, they profess there are only two options -- it is either subsidized stacked condos effacing prime views or the despised office buildings and parking lots!

What is it about Olympia that attracts office buildings? Its industry is government! Providing infrastructure for government and for those who need proximity seems a worthwhile planning priority for the state capital.

And, so is the preservation of pleasant settings for the half million tourists the Capitol Campus draws to our little city each year.
