No high rises along waterfront

To the Editor - The Olympian, March 8, 2008

I have lived in Olympia all my life, which is a considerable length of time. I and my co-Olympians enjoy coming down from the west side on mornings when our mountain is out. It is a joyous way to start a morning. We enjoy gazing out at Budd Inlet, whether close-up or in the distance, watching sailboats ply the waters.

I have, however, recently read that the Olympia City Council intends to pay a consultant $150,000 to develop a process to determine whether high-rise buildings should be allowed on the Olympia waterfront near Capitol Lake. There is an easy way to save the paying of this hefty expenditure: NO consultant is needed because the answer is NO.

NO high-rise buildings to get in the way of our mountain, NO highrise buildings to get in the way of our Budd Inlet, NO high-rise buildings to put a blight on the beauty of Olympia. NO, NO, NO!

If Olympia City Council members need help in deciding the direction in which they need to go on this topic, don't ask another consultant, ask the citizens of Olympia who pay all the bills.
